We are collecting material for this History section of this website. Readers are invited to use the Contact page regarding material they have and the names of anyone who might be featured or who might help present the material.

If you have a special interest, we hope to find a History Secretary to maintain the future section. All local schools have been contacted in January on another topic. We hope to find a Community Secretary who would include schools liaison in the role. Schools are invited to run class projects on this area of local history as well as writing poetry.

There are pages on people of interest associated with the Branch and/or Ross. David King now lives in Witney.

We are indebted to Mary Sinclair-Powell and Dennis Morgan for their help with photos and many more for later inclusion in this section.

Here are local troops a few days before departing for Ypres. Most of them died within four days of arriving on 2 June 1915.

If you can help identify any of the soldiers, please use the Contact page.

We have records of meetings going back to the 1920s and mention is made regarding selling branch premises to W H Smith.

W H Smith was perceived as a model for the character Sir Joseph Porter in H.M.S. Pinafore.

Members of Ross British Legion Branch would like to hear from anyone with further information. Ross British Legion was in the process of selling its premises to W H Smith.
